MISD PROGRAMS

 PRIMARY TEACHER TRAINING

It is the objective of the Montessori training course to prepare adults for the task of helping children develop the fullness of their individual human potential. The student is taught to establish patterns of study, habits of observation, and experimentation useful in the pursuit of this ultimate aim.

This course is given over three summers or one academic year.

The course curriculum includes:
  • Lectures on Montessori philosophy, child psychology and practices of education as related to early child development.
  • Presentations and discussion of the Montessori developmental materials: Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, Music, History, Art and Biology.
  • Supervised practice sessions for students with the materials, under the guidance of qualified staff.
  • Training in observational skills, and 90 hours of observation in A.M.I. classes.
  • Practice teaching in A.M.I. classes under supervision of the trainers.
  • Lectures on classroom management and how to start and operate a Montessori school/class.
  • Lectures on topics of related fields of study.
  • Seminars
  • Material making.
